We Remember Donna Summer

We Remember Donna Summer

TMZ has just reported that Disco Queen Donna Summer has passed away today at age 63 from cancer.

I remember finding Donna Summer in my cousin Zorvita's record collection.
I was not familiar with Bad Girl but I knew I found the woman on the corner sexy.

As a DJ I get annoyed when people spin Hit Stuff or Bad Girls separately and do not allow them to go together.

Though she is know for disco Miss Summer could have sang anything she wanted.

I know that she moved me most when ever I heard ON THE RADIO and I wished she had recorded a version as only a ballad with out the dance interludes.

Good Bye and God Bless.

Thank You.

We Remember CHUCK BROWN

Chuck Brown did not invent GO GO Music but for more than 20 years Brown defined it and was the face of DC Go Go Music to the world.

His influence reached beyond Baltimore, DC, and Go Go Music.

The sound of Chuck Brown and The Soul Searchers could be heard on hip hop classics like Salt N Pepa's My Mic Sound Nice and the We Need Some Money remix to Eric B and Rakim's Paid In Full.
We will have more on Chuck Brown, Please Believe.

All that we can say right now is that he will be missed.

We Remember Maurice Sendak

Remembering Maurice Sendak
Words by Raymond Tyler

Mr. Maurice Sendak known best for WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE.

Wild Things has been one of the most popular children's books since it was first published in 1963.

I myself found out about the incredible dark and funny story telling of Mr. Sendak when I saw the CBS Special REALLY ROSIE that was based on Sendak's 1962 book.

From the first time I saw it to this day the cartoon special which has been performed by kids in plays across the country speaks to the kid in all of us.

Really Rosie speaks to the inner child in almost all aspects the selfish Pierre, the adventurous One Was Johnny and the curious WHO KILLED CHICKEN SOUP to the silly with Allegators All Around.

It sure didn't hurt that Carole King killed the sound track as Rosie....

Maurice Sendak will be missed by children everywhere, and kids of all ages...especially me..

Maurice Sendak was 83.

We Remember Donald "Duck" Dunn

WE REMEMBER...Donald "DUCK" Dunn
Words By Raymond Tyler
November 24, 1941-May 13th 2012

Like most "kids" in my generation. My first introduction to bass guitarist Donald Dunn was through listening to  the soul classics our parents owned like Sam and Dave's "SOUL MAN."

However at 7 or 8 years old I didn't know to check out the bass guitar on the track.

My friends and myself finally got an idea of how great Mr. Dunn was and his contributions to music when "Jake and Elwood" got the band back together in the historical 1980 film The Blues Brothers.

At the time I still only understood the merest nugget of what Mr. Dunn's bass meant to many of my favorite tracks. All I knew then was that he played in the same film as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles and James Brown, so he must be alright.

Today. And for the last 10 years or thanks to articles like this one. I have become a fan of Mr. Dunn's bass.

He added so much funk and soul to my childhood, my learning process, my DJ sets, my film experience, and    a lot of the music I just loved to dance to.

If you remember nothing else...remember I wrote this.
"The Blues Brothers (TV Edit) should be taught in highschool music class."

I don't it's possible the world will ever let us forget Donald "Duck" Dunn!

Barry Manilow To Play The Revel

The Revel presents legendary musicians and chart toppers in separate concerts at Ovation Hall; The Gipsy Kings will perform Friday, August 3 and  Barry Manilow will perform Saturday, September 8.

The Gipsy Kings consist of two bands of brothers: the Reyes (Nicolas, Canut, Paul, Patchai, Andre) and the Baliardos (Tonino, Paco, Diego).  The Reyes and Baliardo boys were the offspring of Spanish gypsy families that had fled into France to escape Spain’s Civil War. They grew up roaming the south of France, working harvests and making music.  Recently, The Gipsy Kings appeared on ABC Television’s Dancing With the Stars and performed their hit “Bamboleo.”
With worldwide sales of more than 80 million records, Barry Manilow’s success is a benchmark in popular music. He is ranked as the top Adult Contemporary chart artist of all time, according to R&R and Billboard Magazines. Rolling Stone crowned him “a giant among entertainers… the showman of our generations,” and Frank Sinatra summed up Manilow best when Ol’ Blue Eyes told the British press, “He’s next.” Manilow’s track record includes 47 top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.
Barry Manilow’s new album, LIVE IN LONDON,  hit the Billboard charts at  #1  Top Internet Albums, #5 Indie Albums, and #24 of Billboard’s Top 200.  That’s the highest charting LIVE album since 1977.
