When You Cross Norah Jones with Danger Mouse!

According to recent industry news letter DIRECT CURRENTS you can expect new music from Ms. Jones and acclaimed DJ Danger Mouse.
"The two worked together on last year's ambitious "spaghetti soundtrack" Rome project with arranger Daniel Luippi and Jack White and obviously something clicked creatively. We'll get to hear the results this spring with "Little Broken Hearts" -- the new album coming this spring via Blue Note. Norah's been wanting to get a bit more daring with her music (witness her last album The Fall where she said "change is what a lot of this album is all about") but just how far is she willing to stray from the "new cabaret" balladry that has sold millions of albums? Color us bemused and, well, fascinated about what might be coming."

EDITORIAL: Marty Small The Movie or Hating is Not Helping.

Like him or not. Like his parties or not. Like his politics or not.
Marty Small is NOT the problem with Atlantic City.
Further more if you think he is? You may be part of the REAL problem.
I belong to several closed groups on Facebook and they all claim to be groups for progressive thinkers. Sometimes what I find are people who mean well but don't read quite enough and their minds have not quite expanded beyond the last pew of their church or a logic that Mike Brady would believe to be a little over simplified.

I saw a post that went into why one person did not care for a short film called Marty Small The Movie.
In his comments the person alluded to the fact there have been about 4 murders in AC since the new year started and somehow tried to place some responsibility on Marty Small.

FAIL!

As some one who works in the media and considers himself an intellectual "I ain't mad" at Marty Small or his Ball or his movie.
Marty Small The Movie is a short film, meant to promote his Small Ball.

Although I am not getting a taste, I am glad that (most likely I don't know for sure) black camera men, a black director/writer/film maker, black actors got an opportunity to practice their crafts and GET SOME MONEY.

THIS IS WHAT I KNOW!

When ROC was on the TV and FRANK'S PLACE I begged Black people to watch....Black People wanted Martin Lawrence in a dress....
That is your right.
However, it would CRAZY for me to blame Martin and Sha Nay Nay for not stopping the spread of AIDS in the 1990's.

I KNOW as a PRODUCER of the only Black Owned local show on WHITE OWNED 96.1 FM WTTH......BLACK BUSINESS OWNERS who I have helped tell me all the time... WHY THEY HAVE TO SPEND THEIR MONEY WITH THE WHITE MAN over me.....(which is a business move...if I was gonna cry about that then I'm too soft for this)

My point is...if you don't like Marty Small The Movie Don't Watch...
If you don't like the Marty Small Ball ...Don't Go
If You Think Something Should Be Done About The Violence in AC?
You can always advertise with me (because FRANKLY I am doing something about it not complaining about it)

If you don't want to advertise with me? And you still want to do something top Stop The Violence, To Create Jobs, To invest In Education? Do something.
The Marty Small Ball Is NOT...killing nobody

Complaining about the Ball Is Not HELPING any body.

What's Your Opinion? We'd Like To Know.

Editorial Note: Marty Small does not and has not ever advertised on my show. I have attended his  Small Ball Event's as a member of the media. I have not seen Marty Small The Movie.

Seal - Love Don't Live Here Anymore - David Letterman 1-16-12

DJ Trouble Man's Single File-SEAL ...IS A MAN!

Let's be for real Rose Royce's Love Don't Live Here Anymore is what a classic sounds like.

So when someone has the nerve to look at a recording that stands so well on it's own I have a few rules.
Especially when someone like SEAL (meaning successful with out needing covers to build an audience) is doing the singing.

Rule Number One-Don't take anything away from the original. You must at least match the energy and soul that we got the first time. I don 't want to hear you singing a great song and want you to stop because you have re-invented it or wrote some wack new verses.

Rule Number Two Please Ad Something substantial to your recording-The one thing I hated about some of Whitney Houston's covers is that she would just re do the song the way it was and bring no new feeling. Whitney is alway capable but I wondered if she was motivated at times.

Well Seal has not made the same mistake. First of all the passion seems totally different coming from Seal's unorthodox raspy voice. Secondly, his addition of a full orchestra over a funk band really makes a song that is bluesy...soar and fly. Watching this performance I still felt sad and blue but I felt excited too.

From Rose Royce to Seal....Love Don't Live Here Anymore is a song that sticks to your heart and it don't let go. Both remind me of the loves in my life that didn't work out that I wanted to. Both are classic. If I had to pick one, it would be the original vocals from Rose Royce...but I would bring Seal's orchestra with me and have Seal do the second verse.

Single File Grade. A+

American Cut Brings Chef Marc Forgione to Revel in Atlantic City

Celebrated Iron Chef to Open 11,000-Square-Foot Restaurant at the Oceanfront Resort This Spring
REVEL BEACH, Atlantic City, NJ (January 9, 2012) – This spring, Iron Chef Marc Forgione will join Revel at its 6.3-million-square-foot beachfront resort in Atlantic City with the opening of American Cut.  The announcement was made today by Revel in partnership with LDV Hospitality, a leading hospitality group headquartered in New York City, and marks Chef Forgione’s first restaurant outside of his Michelin-starred, eponymously named outpost in New York City.  American Cut will pair Chef Forgione’s award-winning, modern and signature take on fine dining with the comforts of the new American steakhouse.
Revel is curating a collection of lifestyle experiences to appeal to enthusiasts of dining, design, entertainment and shopping, bringing a true resort option to the Northeast.  With the addition of Marc Forgione, Revel continues to bring together partners with a strong entrepreneurial spirit and gastronomic talent.  Each culinary partner at Revel has a vested interest in the resort and brings signature style from their regional restaurants in Philadelphia, New York and Washington, D.C.
“American Cut gives me the opportunity to redefine and reset the bar for the American steakhouse experience,” said Executive Chef and Owner Marc Forgione.
The name American Cut is a nod to Marc’s father, Chef Larry Forgione, whose iconic New York City restaurant was called An American Place.  The space will feature approximately 300 seats, an energetic lounge, a grand meat bar and seafood raw bar, two private dining areas and a lively main dining room with stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. Guests at American Cut can look forward to an indulgent experience driven by Chef Forgione’s passion for locally influenced American cuisine, a sexy and vibrant ambiance and genuine hospitality. Signature items will include his take on the ultimate surf and turf – a show-stopping, 28-day aged, 48-ounce Tomahawk Rib Eye Chop served with his delicate yet fulfilling Chili Lobster dish – as well as his famed Chicken Under-A-Brick dish for two that he also serves at his New York City restaurant. The menu will also feature custom steakhouse cuts and seasonal side dishes accented by Chef Forgione’s critically acclaimed flair.
Brooklyn-based Crème Design will take premium steakhouse dining to the next level by combining modern design with Art Deco accents in an 11,000-square-foot space.  Upon arrival, guests are led toward the bar by a curving exterior glass window set upon a black and white marble floor with stacked grey stone walls and large-scale custom pendant lights. A monumental backdrop of dark stained wood showcases the bar offerings as well as tempers the daylight from the windows beyond.
The grand space of the main dining room will be marked by the symmetry of leather wrapped structural columns with the bar at one end and the open show kitchen on the other. A stunning, sixty-foot glowing plane of light hangs above most of the room onto a mix of booths, tufted leather banquettes and loose tables composed of glossy wood and brass tops arranged over a herringbone wood floor below.  Guests looking to be part of the action can choose a table in the back, close to the kitchen to see first-hand where Chef Marc Forgione and his team are hard at work, perhaps catching sight of the Tomahawk Rib Eye being drawn from the large wood burning oven. A bespoke wine display showcases the extensive bottle selection and runs the entire length of the dining room, while antique brass custom pendants, floor lamps and table lamps bring sparkle to the space at every level.  American Cut will also feature a private dining room fit for up to 60 people.
For the third consecutive year, Chef Marc Forgione has been awarded a Michelin star in the 2012 Michelin Guide for his New York City restaurant that shares his name, making him the youngest American-born chef and owner to receive the honor in consecutive years (2010, 2011, 2012). The restaurant also holds a two-star rating from The New York Times. Prior to opening up Restaurant Marc Forgione, he served as chef de cuisine at BLT Prime, and played a key role in the openings of BLT Fish and BLT Market as well as the Washington D.C., San Juan, Puerto Rico and Dallas locations of BLT Steak. In 2010, he earned the coveted Iron Chef title after winning Food Network’s Next Iron Chefcompetition.
Revel will be a complete entertainment destination encompassing more than a dozen other restaurants, three nightclubs, private beach club, more than 1,800 guest rooms, retail shops, a 31,000 square-foot spa, two theaters that seat 5,500 and 500 guests respectively and a 150,000-square-foot casino.  It will bring together offerings designed by top performers in daylife, nightlife, theatrical, spa, and experiential programming.

Tray Chaney - Fatherhood [Music Video]

Some of you may remember Tray Chaney as Pootah from The Wire!
Glad to see he is expanding his visual image beyond that of a street hustler.
Artistic-wise I think this is the best hip hop on fatherhood I've heard since Ed-O-G and The Bull Dogs.....

House Of Lies IS The TRUTH! A Raymond Tyler Review

House Of Lies….IS THE TRUTH

Raymond Tyler Reviews Show Time’s House of Lies which premieres officially tomorrow. However, you can see the whole (edited) version right here on The Music And Entertainment Report!

Recently I discussed on my radio show The Connection cable’s best TV shows of 2011. I have a strong premonition that topping my list of 2012 will be House Of Lies featuring Don Cheadle.

Cheadle excels as Marty Kaan, a kind of image consultant damage control guy. While exactly what Kaan does is never really explained, they show you what Kaan does instead.

House of Lies as a show that is a great breath of fresh air. It takes me back to Entourage. Entourage reminded me of the fun of my twenties. House of Lies is for people who love their high stress, high paid and rewarding grown up lives, or if you just want to experience Kaan’s.

The supporting cast also shines and it is always great to see Glyn Turman doing meaningful work. Come to think of it from A Raisin In The Sun To Cooley High, to A Different World, To The Wire and In Treatment when hasn’t Mr. Turman done meaningful acting.

The dynamic in House Of Lies between Marty, his ex wife and his son who cross dresses, is breath taking and thank God that Show Time landed Cheadle because he is one of the few actors of his generation that actually has a “subtle” button on their acting skills.

I will not tell you any more about The House Of Lies because you can see the full episode right here.

One more thing on Entourage though, I do get the feeling that Showtime with House Of Lies kind of beat HBO to the punch. Entourage ended with the feeling that Ari Gold was getting back into Hollywood. Well Ari Gold is back on TV….only this time he’s black and his name is Marty Kaan. The good news is there is room for two at least on my tv.

Brandon Tomasello Does It His Way at Resorts!

Resorts Casino Hotel introduces Brandon Tomasello with his one-man show, “Sing Swing Sinatra” to the Superstar Theater, January 4 – February 16
(Atlantic City, NJ) December 19, 2011 – A new face and a timeless classic converge on the stage at the Superstar Theater in 2012.  The all new Resorts Casino Hotel announced Brandon Tomasello will present “Sing Swing Sinatra,” his first headlining stage show in the Superstar Theater January 4 – February 16, 2012.
“When I first discovered Brandon singing I was blown away by his talent and knew he was destined to be a star,” said Dennis C. Gomes, owner, president and C.E.O. of Resorts Casino Hotel.  “His performances in the The Whiskey Bar at Resorts have grown over the past few months with rave reviews from our guests, and we are thrilled to bring him to the Superstar Theater in 2012.”
Brandon Tomasello stole his first record at age 8 and he kept stealing them until he had his first collection.  It just happened that all those records he was taking were from his Grandfather and were all Frank Sinatra’s music, influencing a style and voice that is iconic throughout the music industry.  The combination of the young, fresh-faced Brandon Tomasello and the legendary Frank Sinatra shows just how timeless these hits are.  When brought to life on a stage that Sinatra himself performed on, Brandon will have audiences believing they are back in the height of the Rat Pack’s fame.
Brandon Tomasello has it all. Charming and hip with an energy channeling the memory and vibe of the Chairman of the Board, the greatest saloon singer who ever lived.  The show takes you through Sinatra's monochrome Capitol years to his Technicolor hits on Reprise. Brandon grabs his own laughs during the 75 minute show, sharing personal stories and anecdotes, capturing the true essence of his magnetic personality and captivating voice.
Brandon Tomasello will perform “Sing Swing Sinatra” in the Superstar Theater select dates from January 4 – February 16.  Tickets are priced at $20.  For a complete list of times and show schedules please visitwww.resortsac.com.  Tickets can be purchased at Resorts’ Box Office or through Ticketmaster atwww.ticketmaster.com or 1.800.745.3000.

Chaka Khan.... Chaka Khan is Coming To AC!

SOMETHING GOOD!
Chaka Khan, winner of ten Grammy awards, will offer a fabulous set of her hits as she takes the stage at 9 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2012, in the Tropicana Showroom.
She is undeniably one of those singers whose music has staying power. More than 30 years into her career, Chaka Khan remains one of the most exciting and consistent performers in the music industry. Accompanied by her 13-member band, Khan will sing from her treasure trove of hit music, including the best sellers: “I Feel for You,” “Through the Fire,” “Tell Me Something Good,” “I’m Every Woman,”  “Ain’t Nobody” and “Do You Love What You Feel?”
In a crowded music field, Khan remains at the top of her game, with 10 Grammy Awards, countless Lifetime Achievement awards and sold out concerts worldwide.
It was 1970 when Khan burst onto the top of the music scene as the lead singer for the multi-racial band Rufus. Khan’s all-powerful voice, show-stopping stage presence and elaborate costumes created a standard that set her apart from any other singer before or after her.
As with many artists, Chaka sought to establish a solo career. She left Rufus and immediately released the smash hit, “I’m Every Woman.” Her catalog grew even more impressive with such hits as “Clouds,” “Papillon,” and “What’Cha Gonna Do For Me?” She later collaborated with the artist Prince on the song that made her a household name: “I Feel For You.”
Although known for her soul and R&B music, Khan has demonstrated versatility through her pairing with countless artists, including Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and Quincy Jones. Additionally, Khan’s powerful vocals can be heard on a number of soundtracks including the movies, “Clockers,” “Set It Off,” “Miami Vice,” “White Knights,” “27 Dresses,” “Bridget Jones’ Diary,” and “Madea’s Family Reunion.”
In her fourth decade as an artist, Chaka Khan has shown no signs of slowing down. Don’t miss your chance to see this diva of soul on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Tropicana. Tickets are $40, $50, $65 and $75.  Tickets are available through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com or via phone at1.800.736.1420, or at the Tropicana Box Office.
